Bach’s now rarely performed Trauerode (BWV 198) was first heard at a memorial service for the Electress of Saxony and nominal Queen of Poland, Christiane Eberhardine. Further afield in England, George Frideric Handel composed a set of enthralling anthems for the coronation of King George II, introduced by his celebrated work loved by today’s audiences, “Zadok the Priest.”
