MYTHS CONTESTED
The first commercial recording from the WASHINGTON BACH CONSORT in well over a decade, this album marks a new beginning, with the premiere of a newly composed work of our own time. Myths Contested explores enduring ideals, both of, and about art—as well as notions of aesthetic value, culture, and representation. In Bach’s secular “Contest between Phoebus and Pan,” librettist Picander’s remix of Ovid’s Metamorphoses is paired with Trevor Weston’s A New Song, a timely modern companion to Bach’s Dramma per Musica.
